General and Specific Physical Preparation

Every athlete wants to be stronger, more explosive, faster, more agile… When two athletes with approximately same or similar talent find themselves on the opposite sides of a court, the one with better physical characteristics will most probably win.

It is needless to speak today about the importance of physical performance in every aspect. With undoubted progress of technical skills and various tactics, the dominant progress in the world of sports is still registered on the physical planning. Quality physical performance has become absolute priority in professional sport, not only to improve athletic performances but also to prevent injuries.

Before a performance plan and programme are created, an athlete passes through a complete series of postural tests so that eventual defects with regard to the mobility, stability, motor control could be determined and possible asymmetries or imbalances could be revealed.

Everything starts with the Functional Movement Screening and continues through active and passive testing of individual topology body regions. All gathered results give first indications of how the start of preparation period will look like. It actually means that if there has been registered an asymmetry at athlete’s, for example, single leg stance, this will require modulation of training plan until that asymmetry has not been corrected because starting the training under full load with the mentioned asymmetry represents higher risks of injury and limits training results. When the body has been brought in optimal condition with regard to the mobility, stability and when eventual asymmetries and muscle imbalances have been corrected, the specific endurance, strength, power, speed and agility motor testing can begin.

When testing is finished, a creation of detailed preparation plan and programme starts which is maximally oriented toward individual and depends on testing results as well as on biomechanical, functional and motor sport requirements.

In one year training cycle all postural and motor tests are transitively repeated. Firstly in order to control the state of locomotion system with regard to the relationship between mobility/stability and secondary in order to be sure that the level of motor skills obtained in the preparation period is maintained or, even preferably, progressively increases.

  • all quantitative physical capacities are build on the top of the movement quality
  • after corrections of the movement patterns we should start with quantitative physical capacity tests
  • first we need to train smart and then hard
